January 27, 2023 – Lancaster, PA: Taylor D. Hartman, P.E. recently passed the Principles and Practice of Engineering Examination (PE), the last requirement necessary to becoming licensed as a Professional Engineer.
Taylor is a 2016 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor‘s Degree in Architectural Engineering. During his college tenure, he had the opportunity to organize and coordinate a trip to the AISC Steel Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hartman began his career as an intern in our Lancaster branch office in 2015. In the course of his internship, Taylor participated in the documentation of dangerous structural deficits of a local public elementary school. His meticulous efforts were instrumental in achieving a successful resolution – the construction of a new facility.
Mr. Hartman became a full-time engineer-in-training (E.I.T.) with Baker, Ingram & Associates upon his graduation from the University. During his time at BI&A, he has become a highly skilled and valued member of the engineering team.
The designation of Professional Engineer (P.E.) requires a four-step process, beginning with graduation from an ABET- (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited engineering program at a college or university.
The prospective engineer must also pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, meet work experience requirements under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer and then pass the final examination: Principals and Practices of Engineering (PE). After completion of these four steps, an individual is then eligible for licensing as a Professional Engineer in the state where they intend to practice.
The engineering profession regulates itself by setting high standards for professional engineers to help protect the public’s safety and welfare. Licensure demonstrates accomplishment of the high standards and dedication to the engineering profession.
Taylor becomes the fifteenth engineer employed at BI&A to achieve this prestigious professional milestone and we congratulate him as he assumes his new role and responsibilities at the firm.
